Seafood and Maritime Training (SMT) is proud to be the first workplace to join the b kinder Workplace Initiative—a powerful program designed to strengthen workplace culture by fostering kindness, empathy, compassion, and belonging.
Led by employees, the initiative helps create a positive work environment where everyone feels valued and supported. As part of the program, SMT employees participated in a Leading with Compassion workshop facilitated by Catherine Kolomyjec.

“We need to think of every job or task we do through the filter of compassion,” said SMT’s Michelle Dolby. Chadd Mumme, SMT’s Aquaculture Trainer, shared that the workshop provided “tools to make the workplace a kinder place” and to help “break down barriers” with co-workers and learners.
Danny Mayson-Kinder, founder of the b kinder Foundation, explained that the workplace program works from the top down, encouraging adults in companies to model kindness and empathy. By doing so, workplace culture improves, benefiting employees, clients, and overall mental well-being. Additionally, b kinder workplaces support an Australian primary school in becoming b kinder school, creating a ripple effect that strengthens entire communities.

The b kinder Foundation is known for it’s a school-based well-being program that nurtures kindness, empathy, and compassion in children during their formative years. With many Australian schools taking part in the student-driven program that is tailored to all educational levels.
