MAR40324 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal)

Who is the Qualification for?

With this certificate you can command a vessel less than 45 metres near coastal.

This certificate will allow you to work as:

  • Master on commercial vessels up to 45 metres long within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
  • Master on vessels up to 100 metres long in inshore waters.
  • Chief mate or deck watchkeeper on vessels up to 100 metres long within the EEZ.

Qualification requirements

To receive a MAR40324 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal) a participant is required to complete all of the following 23 Core Units of Competency shown in the table below:

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification, however, some of these training courses have been designed for participants with considerable experience in working with vessels.

AMSA Orals

SMT is proud to offer AMSA Oral exams for MAR40324 – Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal) in-house at Seafood and Maritime Training. Please contact SMT office to discuss when the exams will take place for the year and to book a spot.

Qualification outcome

At the successful completion of all the Core Units of Competency you will be issued with a Certificate for a MAR40324 – Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal).

Additional AMSA Master up to 45m (NC) Certificate of Competency Certification requirements.

In addition to the Certificate and AMPA outcome issued by SMT, AMSA certification will require:

  • Certificate as a Master up to 24 metres Near Coastal or Mate less than 80 metres near coastal certificate of competency, or a certificate AMSA considers equivalent.
  • Be able to speak and understand English, including written documents
  • a long range operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) issued by ACMA (or higher qualification)
  • Be medically fit for the duties, including eyesight
  • With AMSA approved task book:
    • At least 180 days qualifying sea service on a commercial vessel ≥12 m long while holding a Master <24 m NC certificate or a Mate <80 m NC certificate including 120 days as person in charge of a navigational watch.
  • Without AMSA approved task book:
    • At least 360 days qualifying sea service on a commercial vessel ≥12 m long while holding a Master <24 m NC certificate or a Mate <80 m NC certificate including 240 days as person in charge of a navigational watch meeting the medical and eyesight requirements specified in the NSCV Part D
  • Having passed final assessment as conducted by the regulator (Orals)

 

For eligible Tasmanian residents, this training is subsidised by the Department of State Growth, Tasmania
