Who is the course for?

This course is for qualified commercial Divers who are looking to take on the role as a dive supervisor in the seafood industry.

What will I learn?

The course provides theoretical and practical training and covers topics including:

  • The role of a dive supervisor
  • Risk management
  • Physics and physiology of diving
  • Emergency procedures
  • Planning and Coordinating Dive operations
  • Post dive review and report writing
  • Communication and managing personnel
  • Supervising underwater trawl operations
  • Supervising Nitrox.

How will I be trained and assessed?

SMT’s training and assessment is conducted in the classroom and at suitable venues that meet the regulators requirements for a practical location.  The course contains 7 days theory and 3 days practical training and assessment and will include:

  • Self-paced reading and completion of workbooks 
  • Written assignments
  • Practical assessment including planning and supervising multiple live dive operation.

Things you need to know

How long is the course?

The two-week course has been developed in line with Aust/NZ Standard AS/NZS 2299.1:2015 which is relevant to the training and certification of underwater divers.

The duration of this course has been determined to meet the training and assessment requirements of the competencies assessed for an industry participant required to supervise and manage dive operations.

What sort of credential(s) do I get if I successfully complete the course?

The units of competency to be issued on the successful completion of this course:

  • ACMWHS401- Maintain workplace health and safety processes 
  • BSBOPS403 – Apply business risk management processes
  • SFIDIV301 – Work effectively as a diver in the seafood industry
  • AHCWRK409 – Supervise work routines and staff performance
  • AHCMOM402- Supervise maintenance of property, machinery and equipment
  • BSBSTR402 – Implement continuous improvement
  • BSBOPS601 – Develop and implement business plans
  • BSBCMM511 – Communicate with influence
