Aquaculture Diver Skill Set

Who is the course for?

The course is for persons employed in the aquaculture industry.  

Note: The course is for persons who have a current PADI/SSI dive certificate. The unit SISOSCB001 SCUBA dive in open water to a maximum depth of 18 metres will be completed as an assessment only (RPL) unit.

The course provides theoretical and practical training and covers topics including:

  • Effects of Diving at depth
  • Diving Tables

How will I be trained and assessed?

SMT’s training and assessment is conducted in the classroom and at a suitable and approved venue that meets the regulators requirements for a practical location, and will include:

  • Theory and Completion of dive operations 
  • Practical training and assessments throughout the 4 weeks 
  • Written assignments and theory assessments
  • Practical training and assessment with industry relevant tasks and equipment

How long is the course?

This is a four-week course, it includes a mix of theory and practical training and assessment for the participants within the industry.

The duration of this course has been determined to meet the training and assessment requirements of the competencies assessed for an industry participant.

What sort of credential(s) do I get if I complete the course?

The units of competency to be issued on the successful completion of this course:

  • ISOSCB001 SCUBA dive in open water to a maximum depth of 18 metres
  • SISOSCB008 SCUBA dive using Enriched Air Nitrox
  • SFIDIV304 Undertake emergency procedures in diving operations using SSBA
  • SFIDIV301 Work effectively as a diver in the seafood industry
  • SISOSCB007 Inspect and fill SCUBA cylinders
  • SFIDIV302 Perform diving operations using SSBA
  • SFIDIV306 Perform underwater work in the aquaculture sector

 

For eligible Tasmanian residents, this training is subsidised by the Department of State Growth, Tasmania.
