Traineeships & Certificates

Our most popular traineeship is the SFI30119 Certificate III in Aquaculture.

Available for people who are actively employed in the finfish or shellfish aquaculture industry, including hatcheries.

A traineeship is a great opportunity for both employers and employees.

Employees are able to re-train and upskill, and it can be a great way to motivate employees to take the next step in their career.

Our most popular traineeship is the SFI30119 Certificate III in Aquaculture.

The traineeship reflects the role of individuals who work as aquaculture attendants or technicians for the care of aquatic stock in the aquaculture sector of the Seafood Industry.

In this role, these individuals have responsibilities for the handling of stock, maintaining water quality and monitoring environmental conditions. They may also perform dives or vessel operations as part of their role.

The Aquaculture traineeships have a mixture of off the job and on the job training and assessment.

Courses that may be included within the traineeship include:

  • Finfish Husbandry and Production 4 days off the job training and assessment
  • Shellfish Husbandry 5 days off the job training and assessment
  • WHS 1 day off the job training and assessment
  • Food Safety 1 day off the job training and assessment.

Those enrolled in a traineeship are also able to complete many of the other courses from our offerings.

Employers may be eligible to receive significant Australian Government Incentives which assists with the costs involved with the training.

Trainees may be eligible to claim travel allowances for travel associated with course attendance (conditions do apply).

Our traineeships are available for people who are actively employed in the finfish or shellfish aquaculture industry, including hatcheries.

course duration

Traineeships usually have a contracted period of 24 months, giving the trainee and employer plenty of time to complete on the job training and regular practice of specific tasks that are associated with the qualification.

For the Certificate III and above Traineeships, these must be requested and supported by the employer as access to on the job training and assessment is required.  

  • SFI10119 Certificate I in Seafood Industry (offered in conjunction with our Trade Training Centre partners)
  • SFI20119 Certificate II in Aquaculture (offered in conjunction with our Trade Training Centre partners)
  • SFI30119 Certificate III in Aquaculture
  • SFI30319 Certificate III in Seafood Post Harvest Operations
  • SFI40119 Certificate IV in Aquaculture
